Patricia Kline, Harpist

BIO

A native of Massachusetts, Patricia Kline first fell in love with the harp at he age of five. Despite a few close calls while leaning dangerously far over the edges of orchestra pits in order to see the harpist at work, she managed to survive to the age of twelve, when she finally took up the instrument herself. She studied first with Maria Stanisweska and then Felice Pomeranz. She also attended the Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, for three summers during high school.

In 2000, Patricia began studying at the prestigious Eastman School of Music with Professor Kathleen Bride. It was here that she developed a love for many different styles of music, especially contemporary and early music. She graduated with her Bachelor of Music in 2004. She also received an Arts Leadership Certificate, which involved an internship with the Rochester Philharmonic n their Education and Outreach Department. Patricia spent part of the following summer touring Japan, Taiwan, and Macau as a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble.

In the fall of 2004, Patricia returned to the Eastman School of Music as a teaching assistant in the harp department. The following summer, she performed for the first time as a member of the pit orchestra at the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, Ohio, a position that she has held for the last three summers. In 2006, she completed her Master’s degree at Eastman and received the Robert Wayne Barlow award for Excellence in Harp Performance.

After the completion of her degrees, Patricia returned home to her native Massachusetts. Early in 2007, she recorded a CD of Metallica covers for two harps with fellow harpist, Ashley Toman, and the duo, dubbed Harptallica, completed a well-received five-week tour of the Eastern U.S. later that year.

Patricia currently resides in Worcester County, Massachusetts, where she teaches and freelances.
